Nottingham Forest complete the signing of Gonzalo Montiel

The uncertainty about Gonzalo Montiel’s future is finally over. After weeks of speculation about a potential River Plate return due to his lack of playing time at Spain’s Sevilla FC, the 26-year-old Argentinian right-back has found a new target in the Premier League.

Although there have been offers from other English league clubs such as Aston Villa and Fulham, Nottingham Forest has become Montiel’s new home. According to reports by respected journalist Cesar Luis Merlo, the English team have reached an agreement with Sevilla to acquire the player for a sum of 11 million euros.

The news marks an exciting chapter in the career of Montiel, who emerged from the River Plate youth and quickly became a fixture in Argentine football before making the leap to Europe.

The right-back, characterized by his versatility and defensive ability, made a lasting impression at Sevilla FC, making 72 appearances for the Spanish club in total. During his time at Seville, Montiel scored two goals and provided five assists. In addition, he was the author of the decisive penalty that gave the Andalusian team the 2022/23 Europa League.

Sevilla acquired 80% of Montiel’s pass for almost €11m, which represents a significant investment in the talented Argentina full-back.

Additionally, Nottingham Forest are rumored to be in talks to add another Argentine player to their ranks: Nicolás Domínguez, the ex-Vélez Sarsfield player who has played an important role at Bologna in Italy and is a regular in Argentina national team.
