Notorious Robber’s Stunning Comeuppance in Police Chase

A 31-year-old man, with a history of convictions for attacking a police officer, weapons and ammunition trafficking, and robbery, was recently arrested. His previous arrest led to a conviction for especially aggravated robbery, which involved firing a weapon during the crime.

The man was arrested again this past Wednesday for stealing a Volkswagen Gol car near a shopping center in Canelones. He, along with another man, was pursued by police using video surveillance cameras, leading to a high-speed chase that ended near Puntas de Manga. The suspects abandoned their vehicle and attempted to flee on foot, shooting at the police three times before being apprehended.

Consequences and Investigation

As a result of his arrest, the man faces 120 days of preventive detention for especially aggravated robbery and repeat offenses of carrying weapons. He will also be further investigated for all crimes.

The second suspect involved in the car theft received a sentence of 5 years and 4 months in prison through an abbreviated process for being responsible for a particularly aggravated crime of theft. This individual had previously been imprisoned for a similar crime in 2022.

The investigation into the car theft was led by Las Piedras 3rd shift prosecutor, Mariana Rodríguez, with assistance from Canelones police and the Automotive Brigade of the Montevideo Headquarters.
