The fourth game of the four-match ODI series between England and New Zealand is currently being played at Lord’s. In this match, a brilliant innings of 127 runs off 114 balls was scored by the bat of left-handed English opening batsman David Malan. Since making his debut in the ODI format, Malan has had an excellent record with the bat in the 50-over format.
David Malan has so far batted in 21 ODI innings and scored 1088 runs at an average of 61.53. During this period, 5th century and 5th half-century innings were also seen from his bat. This makes Malan the fastest England player to cross the thousand-run mark in the ODI format. Previously, also in T20 International, David Malan became the fastest player to score a thousand runs for England, which he completed in 24 innings.
The English team won the toss in this game and decided to bat first. Thereafter, despite the decline in wickets at one end, Malan continuously maintained the pace of runs while managing the innings at one end. Due to Malan’s innings, the English team managed to reach the score of 311 after 50 overs in this match, losing 9 wickets.
Defending champions England had already announced their team for the upcoming game in India. David Malan was also included in this team. Looking at his form, he can become a big problem for the bowlers of the opposition teams on Indian pitches. The England team will play their first game of the World Cup against New Zealand on October 5th.
