NOS joins Vodafone to boost 5G

Support for 5G is already in most smartphones purchased in 2021. But being able to take advantage of this mobile network technology is a privilege that operators hope to see soon changed.

In an official statement, NOS announced this week its entry as a member of the 5G Future Forum (5GFF). It is a platform that “brings together world leaders in communications to accelerate the development and adoption of 5G and Multiple Access Edge Computing (MEC) technologies.”

This set was originally created in January 2020, having as founders Grupo Vodafone, América Móvil, KT Corporation, Rogers, Telstra and Verizon. The design is clear.

According to Jorge Graça, executive director of NOS, “by being part of the 5G Future Forum, NOS reinforces its commitment to innovation to explore all the disruptive potential of 5G”.

For the executive of the Portuguese operator, “it is now in a privileged position to help develop the most advanced applications in 5G and Multi-access Edge Computing, technologies that will definitely shape our global future.”

NOS will contribute its “insightful perspective” on real-world industry challenges, according to Verizon’s Janine Grasso. NOS has already deployed its first MEC nodes, having an ambitious plan to continue investing in this technology in parallel with the 5G expansion plan.

With more than 200 professionals in the area of ​​innovation, NOS boasts of being in first place in the Research and Development 2020 ranking of the General Directorate of Education and Science Statistics. In an investment that exceeded 67 million euros, with a clear focus on the commitment to 5G.
