The merry-go-round accident occurred on Saturday evening in Arleux during the smoked garlic fair which is held each year in the northern city. For reasons not yet determined, a basket of a fairground attraction with young passengers on board came loose and fell, slightly injuring them.
Around 8 p.m., a plane from a merry-go-round at the funfair broke away for no apparent reason, according to La Voix du Nord. At the time of the accident, the nacelle was at a height of approximately 1.2 m. The fall slightly injured four children, a girl and three boys aged between 2 and 6 years old. These were immediately taken care of by firefighters and a team from the SAMU, before being transferred to the hospital in Douai, according to information from the northern daily.
The prefect of the North immediately decided to close the fun fair. An investigation is underway to determine the causes of the accident.
