No Way Home: Retouched Footage – Here’s Where Tobey Maguire & Andrew Garfield Might Have Been Deleted

The second Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer may have deleted Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield of the video. Impatience rises as the release of the film, produced in collaboration by Marvel studios and Sony. Realized by Jon Watts, Tom Holland resumes his role of Peter Parker in the MCU, however Spider-Man: No Way Home could feature older versions of the Spider as well.

Marketing for Spider-Man: No Way Home got off to a late start, with the first trailer not showing until late August 2021. Still, it was surprisingly compact in its revelations. Along with confirming the incorporation of the events of Spider-Man: Far From Home, the trailer sets up a multiverse storytelling. Desperate after his superhero identity is revealed, Peter Parker asks Doctor Strange for help (Benedict Cumberbatch), but instead of making things better, the sorcerer’s fate made them worse. He exposed the Earth to various threats from other universes, hence the appearance of the Doc Ock ofAlfred Molina of Spider-man 2. The second trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home continues on this path by showing other villains from other universes, including the Green boffoon of Willem Dafoe and Electro of Jamie Foxx.

While villains from previous Sony films may appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home, how come their respective heroes can’t? Despite persistent rumors that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will be in the cast of the film, they are still not officially confirmed. Still, there’s a good chance they’ll be present in the new trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home, but that they were strategically cut during editing. There are a few scenes in the video where they could have been involved, most notably the final construction battle where Peter from Tom holland fight five bad guys at the same time. There is a slow motion shot in the video where Spider-Man jumps to Sandman (Thomas Haden Church). The images are sublime, it’s true, but it’s worth noting that the lizard (Rhys Ifans) and Electro also jump forward, without attacking anyone. The trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home could have easily deleted the version of Spiderman of Tobey Maguire and D’Andrew Garfield in this scene. For further, the lizard even seems to be struck by something completely invisible. This is obviously a three-on-three fight. Considering the way it was shot, this scene could be a highlight of the movie.

No Way Home

It is also possible that at least the version ofAndrew Garfield or directly involved in the scene of the fall of MJ (Zendaya). See the Peter of Tom holland trying to save her as she falls from the top floor of the building is reminiscent of the touching death of Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 of Marc Webb. While the MCU couple was initially filmed in a wide-shot, it then moved up to a close-up of their hands reaching out to each other.

If it makes sense that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man tries to save his girlfriend, it is also possible that the iteration ofAndrew Garfield come to his aid, the scene noticeably evoking memories of his mistake in his own universe. In addition to saving MJ, this allows Peter toAndrew Garfield to redeem himself from the mistake that cost him Gwen. It would be an emotional moment that would benefit both the future storytelling of the MCU and that of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, this may be the introductory scene of his Spider-Man.

Marvel Studios are notorious for modifying their trailer plans in an effort to maintain secrecy. Some shots used in the promo videos don’t make it into the final cut, while other footage is edited to remove a particular character or item. Sometimes they even shoot footage for purely promotional purposes. Knowing how much the involvement of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield in Spider-Man: No Way Home is important, it’s likely that they decided to keep their implications a secret until the film’s theatrical release.
