No problem with army chief: Imran Khan

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that he has no personal ‘problem’ with Pakistan’s army chief.

He said this in an interview given to Al Jazeera. However, Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan has also alleged that Army Chief General Asim Munir is trying to prevent his return to power.

Imran Khan spoke to Al Jazeera on Saturday about the overall situation after Pakistan’s civilian government announced that martial law would be used to prosecute PTI supporters.

He said, ‘I have no problem with him (Army Chief), but he seems to have a problem with me.’

At least eight people lost their lives in violent protests across Pakistan after the arrest of Imran Khan on May 9. Later, the Islamabad High Court granted bail to Imran Khan last Friday. The bail was due to expire on Wednesday. However, the court extended the bail till May 31 after his lawyer applied for more time to prepare the details of the case against Imran Khan that day.

The PTI chief has been staying at Zaman Park’s house since he was released on bail. There he gave an interview to Al Jazeera.

Imran Khan blamed army chief General Asim Munir for ordering his arrest after he was released on bail.

Imran Khan said, ‘I have not done anything to anger the army chief, but he has some problem with me that I don’t know about.’

He said, ‘The entire top leadership (of PTI) has been arrested. You know, there are about 150 cases against me. So I could be arrested anytime. But the thing is – you can’t arrest a plan like that, especially when time is on his side.’
