Jesper de Jong and Indy de Vroome have both lost their last match in the qualifying tournament for the Australian Open. In Melbourne, De Vroome lost after an exciting match against Stefanie Vögele (3-6, 6-4, 5-7) and Tomas Machac from the Czech Republic was too strong for De Jong: 6-2, 6-3.
De Vroome in particular was very close to her grand slam debut. After almost three hours of tennis she even got two match points against the Swiss Vögele, but De Vroome was unable to use them.
Hogenkamp and Hartono still in action
Richèl Hogenkamp and Arianne Hartono will play their last match in the qualifying tournament on Friday morning (Dutch time). If Hartono wins, she will make her grand slam debut. For Hogenkamp it could be her tenth grand slam tournament, the last time she participated was in 2019 during the US Open.
Botic van de Zandschulp, Tallon groenpoor and Arantxa Rus have already been admitted to the main tournament in Melbourne because of their ranking.
