THE nintendo switch will have surpassed Sony PlayStation 1 to become the fifth best-selling console worldwide, according to new indicators published on January 15, 2022 by the market analysis agency VGChartz.
According to this entity, the global sales volume of the Nintendo Switch handheld console has already surpassed the first generation of Sony’s console, the original PlayStation (PSX or PS1). That is, more than 102.81 million Nintendo consoles have been sold.
Nintendo Switch dethrones Sony’s PlayStation 1 console
The growth in popularity and sales of the Nintendo Switch console has already been witnessed by the statist agency. By the way, Nintendo itself, in its public indicatorsshows solid growth for its handheld gaming platform since its launch.
In fact, since its arrival on the market in 2017, Switch has conquered players around the world with its hybrid and portable format. More recently, with the introduction of the OLED model, sales would pick up again.
For this reason, VGChartz points out that Switch sold 341,662 units worldwide in the week ending January 15, 2022. It was around that time that the console would jump to 5th place among the best sellers in video game history.

The next objective of Nintendo Switch will be to surpass Sony PlayStation 4, current holder of the 4th place among the best-selling consoles of all time. Third is Nintendo’s Game Boy, which also includes the Game Boy Color.
Finally, the best-selling console of all time remains the Sony PlayStation 2 with total global sales of 158 million units.
