Nintendo Switch 2 Unveils Enhanced Hybrid Console Features

Nintendo just unveiled its latest console, the Switch 2. The big reveal happened during a packed one-hour Direct event, showcasing a slew of new games. One of the biggest announcements was Mario Kart World, a brand-new installment in the popular racing series, exclusive to the Switch 2.

What’s Under the Hood?

The Switch 2 boasts some impressive specs, including a large 7.9-inch 1080p LCD screen with HDR support. The Joy-con controllers have been revamped with a magnetic design that requires a bit more force to detach. They also come with a new C button, enabling voice chat and other features. A separate camera accessory will be available for online multiplayer, allowing players to see each other’s faces.

Some other notable features include:

  • A new, adjustable stand
  • Dual USB-C ports for expanded connectivity
  • A base 256GB storage capacity, expandable via MicroSD Express
  • A dock that supports 4K resolution on TVs, with a built-in fan for cooling
  • Support for up to 120 FPS

Pricing and Release Date

The Switch 2 is set to launch on June 5, 2025, with a standard edition that includes the console only, as well as a bundle with Mario Kart World. Although pricing has not been officially announced, rumors suggest the standard edition will cost around $450, while the bundle will be priced at $500.

Nintendo also announced an upgraded online service, Game Cube, for Switch 2 Online Members, along with a new Game Cube controller featuring the C button.

The company’s marketing strategy seems to be following earlier rumors, with plans to offer both a standard Switch 2 and a special Switch 2 Edition. The latter will include additional features like mouse support and enhanced 4K graphics for certain games, such as Super Mario Party Jamboree and Zelda. The switch 2 Edition will have distinctive red packaging to avoid confusion.
