The wait is almost over for gamers eager to get their hands on the Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo Southeast Asia has announced that the console will arrive in Thailand between July and September.
This news is a big deal, especially since Nintendo also plans to launch a full-fledged eShop and Nintendo Switch Online service in the region. No more switching to a different region to access these features. But will these services come with the Switch 2? We’ll have to wait and see.
What’s new with the Switch 2?
Let’s start with the specs. The console boasts a 7.9-inch screen with 1080p resolution and a whopping 120Hz refresh rate. It also supports HDR, making for a more immersive gaming experience. The Joy-Con controllers have been upgraded with larger SL/SR buttons and analog sticks. They now attach to the console with magnets, and you can even use them as a mouse. A new C Button allows for easier communication with friends during gameplay. The console itself has a built-in microphone with noise cancellation, two USB-C ports, and 256GB of internal storage. When docked, it can handle 4K resolution at 60FPS, and the dock even has a cooling fan to prevent overheating.
Pricing and availability
In Japan, the Switch 2 will come in two versions: a multi-language version priced at 69,980 yen, and a Japan-only version that’s significantly cheaper at 49,980 yen. As for Thailand, we’re still waiting for an official price announcement. The console is set to launch in Japan on June 5, while Thai gamers will have to wait until sometime between July and September.
