Nintendo Launches Anti-Resale Measures for Switch 2 Preorders

People know that when a new gaming console drops, some sellers buy up a bunch of them to resell at a higher price. This has been a problem for a while, and it still isn’t solved. Even if more consoles are made, if people want them too much, sellers will still find a way to resell them for more money.

But now, some sellers who want to buy the new Nintendo Switch 2 online to resell it might be in trouble. Nintendo has come up with a way to stop them from buying too many consoles at once.

To preorder the Nintendo Switch 2, you need to already own the first Switch console. You also need to be a member of Switch Online, and you need to have been using it for a while. This means you can’t just sign up and expect to be able to buy the new console right away. You need to have been a member for at least two years, and the more you’ve played games on it, the better your chances are of being picked to preorder the Switch 2.

There are some other rules too. If you’re part of a family membership, only the person in charge of the account can buy the console. The other members of the family won’t be able to buy it. People who are picked to preorder will get an email from Nintendo with a link to buy the console online.

This only applies to preorders made online, though. If you want to buy the console in a store, you can’t use these rules against you. And you can buy the Nintendo Switch 2 and take it home immediately if the store has it.

How it works

Nintendo is trying to stop sellers from buying too many consoles by making it harder for them to get their hands on them. The company wants to make sure that people who really want to play games on the console can get one, rather than sellers who just want to make a profit.
