Nintendo Discontinues Gold Points Reward System on March 25

Nintendo has confirmed that as of March 25, it will stop distributing gold points. The company has made it clear through an official statement that the Gold Points Service will conclude on this date. However, don’t worry – you can still use them until they expire. Since the system was implemented, gold points have had a validity of one year. So, all the gold points you obtain until March 24 will be valid for one year.

What will happen to my Nintendo Switch gold points

This has been explained on Nintendo’s website: the gold points that have already been achieved can continue to be used in the Nintendo eShop to obtain a discount, even after the cessation date of the service. In the same way, they’ve explained that you can continue to obtain points until the 24th. Consequently, all digital reservations or purchases made through the Nintendo eShop or the official Nintendo website until March 24 (date included) will continue to grant gold points. The release date of the game will be independent of this standard.

In other words, if you reserve a game that comes out in April 2025, you’ll still get the relevant gold points when the payment is processed, although this is after the expiration date of the service. Just keep in mind that reserves purchased outside the aforementioned points of sale won’t include gold points. Or, to put it another way, codes associated with games in physical format that are exchanged through the eShop won’t give gold points. That said, it’s a shame Nintendo will eliminate this service – it was a great way to save money with our purchases.

What are the gold points

The gold points are a type of reward that Nintendo granted to its users after making certain purchases. These could then be redeemed for discounts on future purchases or used as a currency to change certain exclusive products. To get gold points, it was necessary to make a purchase through the Nintendo eShop or the official Nintendo website, or to redeem a download code obtained from a store. In total, 5% of the purchase value was obtained as gold points.
