Nintendo Confirms Other Projects Beyond Mario, Zelda Movies

The Super Mario Bros. Movie was a huge hit. It showed everyone that Nintendo characters could jump from games to the big screen. We already know a Legend of Zelda movie is on its way too. But it turns out Nintendo has even more up its sleeve. They are busy with other projects beyond these two beloved game series.

This news came out during a recent Q&A session with investors. Someone asked Nintendo’s current President, Shuntaro Furukawa, if the company planned any more movies besides Mario and Zelda. His answer offered some interesting details.

Furukawa reminded everyone that the first Super Mario Bros. Movie launched in April 2023. He mentioned how happy they were with the positive feedback from around the world. Looking ahead, he confirmed a new Super Mario Bros. animated film is due in April 2026. A live-action movie based on The Legend of Zelda is also planned for May 2027.

Nintendo’s Bigger Picture

Nintendo’s strategy is clear: they want to introduce their characters to more people. This helps boost their main business, which is selling consoles and games. For years, they have been trying new things outside of video games, and movies are a big part of that. Instead of just letting other companies make films with their characters, Nintendo takes a hands-on approach. They get directly involved in making the movies and invest their own money. This method helps them keep the quality high.

Furukawa couldn’t talk about specific plans beyond the Zelda film right now. However, he confirmed they are "working on various other projects."

It’s exciting to wonder what these "other projects" might be. Could we see a Metroid film? Maybe Donkey Kong or Kirby will get their own stories? As more details, or even interesting rumors, pop up, we will definitely keep you updated.
