Neena Gupta Speaks on Feminism, Says Being Born a Woman is a Curse

Neena Gupta’s recent comments on feminism have sparked heated debates. In a candid interview, she expressed her thoughts on the challenges women face, stating that being born a woman is a curse, especially for those from poor backgrounds. Gupta’s remarks came as a shock, but she clarified that she doesn’t want to stir up controversy. Instead, she blamed the media for twisting her words.

Gupta had previously spoken about feminism on Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast, saying she doesn’t believe in it. She thinks men and women are not equal and shouldn’t be compared. In another interview, she mentioned that women need men to move forward in life. Now, in her latest interview with Lily Singh, Gupta shared her thoughts on what feminism means to her. “For me, feminism is about being strong from within,” she said. “That’s what feminism is to me – me.”

When asked what she wants for women in the country, Gupta replied, “What I want is not possible. I want them to be safe, but that’s not possible.” She then made a startling statement: “If women work, they’ll get raped. If you educate them, they’ll want to work, and if they work, they’ll get raped.” Gupta’s words highlight the harsh realities women face, particularly those living in poverty.

Gupta’s emotions were palpable as she spoke about the plight of women in slums. “When I know the reality, how can I say optimistic things? It’s a curse. What happens to women living in slums? I want solutions, but I don’t see any.” Her words have sparked a necessary conversation about the struggles women face and the need for change.
