Independiente defeated Unión in Santa Fe on Monday night and accumulated its fourth victory in a row, the third in the Professional League plus the one achieved midweek over Vélez for the Argentine Cup.

The 1 to 0 was converted by the midfielder Lucas Romero at the start of the second half and with it the Red reached 24 units and was in 19th place, while Union remains with 26 and three places higher.

The night was spoiled as favorable for the visit as soon as the match started, when after three minutes the Uruguayan Jonathan Alvez dominated a pitch from the bottom of the tatengue and took a powerful shot that hit the crossbar.

The play woke up Avellaneda’s men, who little by little and before a new wink of fate -they came from beating Sarmiento with two shots that deviated along the way and dislodged the goalkeeper- they were more attentive than their rival, without a dominance outstanding, but with a lot of intensity and a good understanding between Leandro Fernández and Leandro Benegas on the offensive side.

Julio César Falcioni’s team was active, judicious in passing, albeit a bit accelerated, and although it created some dangerous chances with quick counterattack exits, it was not able to be fine in the definition.

Unión finished the first half better and Alvez once again had a clear scoring chance, but perhaps those final minutes overly relied on those led by Uruguayan Gustavo Munúa. At the beginning of the second and from a side kick, Rojo put together a good play that ended with Benegas assisting Romero so that he took a nice shot from the door of the area that went near the right post of Santiago Mele.

Independiente dedicated himself to taking care of the advantage and, with Iván Marcone as a figure, he did not go through major shocks to achieve his goal and take confirmation from Santa Fe that he is going through a good moment.
