Nigerian car accident kills 21

Nigeria once again mourns the many victims of a road accident. On Sunday in the north of the country, 21 people were killed in a traffic accident involving a bus and a truck, police said.

The tragedy occurred around 6 am in Radabi village, Jigawa state. A bus and truck “fell into a broken pipe filled with water,” police spokesman Lawan Shiisu said in a statement.

Road accidents are common in Nigeria, the most populous country and the main economy in Africa, with the most common causes being reckless driving, overloaded vehicles and poor roads. The state of the road network has been aggravated in recent weeks by numerous storms and floods.
