Nicole Kidman has offered a rare glimpse into her emotional state following her separation from husband Keith Urban. The acclaimed actress, 58, stated she is "hanging in there" during a recent conversation with Ariana Grande for Interview Magazine.
The interview was published on November 24, but the discussion occurred on October 19. Weeks prior, on September 30, Kidman filed for divorce from Urban, also 58, after 19 years of marriage.
Despite the personal challenges, Kidman spoke positively about her professional life. She spent the summer filming ‘Practical Magic 2’ in London.
She worked alongside co-stars Sandra Bullock, Maisie Williams, and Joey King on the project. "I have a very strong relationship with all those women, so I felt protected and loved," Kidman explained. "It was a very, very safe environment."
The Interview Magazine conversation also explored the experiences of achieving fame at a young age. Ariana Grande, who released her debut album ‘Yours Truly’ at 20, described a "tricky adjustment period."
Kidman, who rose to prominence in the US after ‘Days of Thunder’ in 1990, shared similar sentiments. She recalled being "put in a fishbowl" and having everything "analyzed."
"It starts to get really, really difficult," the Oscar winner said. "Then you overthink it, and you get scared, and you get hurt."
Kidman also acknowledged the constant push and pull that exists for everyone in the public eye.
Kidman and Urban were married in 2006. They share two daughters, Sunday, 17, and Faith, 14. Kidman also has two children, Bella, 32, and Connor, 30, with her former husband Tom Cruise.
Us Weekly confirmed the couple’s separation on September 29. Kidman officially filed for divorce the next day, citing irreconcilable differences.
Her filing included a proposed parenting plan and a request for child support. Kidman sought to be named the "primary residential parent" for Sunday and Faith.
Under the proposed plan, the daughters would spend 306 days a year with their mother and 59 days with their father, including alternating weekends.
Sources close to the couple informed Us Weekly last month that the separation had "been a long time coming."
An insider noted that Keith Urban "had moved on and been honest with Nicole about where he stood." The decision to separate was ultimately "more a matter of acceptance than a surprise" as they had "quietly grown apart."
