The entertainment world just got a jolt. After 19 years, Hollywood star Nicole Kidman has filed for divorce from country music icon Keith Urban. It’s a surprising end for a couple who often spoke about their "normal" life away from the spotlight.
The news broke on Tuesday, September 30, when Kidman, 58, officially submitted the divorce papers. Media reports confirmed the filing, with TMZ being the first to share the story. This official move comes after entertainment outlet Us reported their separation just a day earlier, on Monday, September 29. Kidman and Urban share two teenage daughters, Sunday, 17, and Faith, 14.
Signs of trouble may have been brewing for months. Back in May, Kidman attended the prestigious Met Gala alone. The couple was last seen together publicly on June 20. They went to a FIFA Club World Cup 2025 match in Nashville. That outing in Music City happened just five days before their nineteenth wedding anniversary.
Despite the impending split, Kidman shared an Instagram post on June 25 to celebrate their anniversary. She tagged the location as Nashville. The photo showed her cuddling close to Urban, who held a guitar. Her caption read, "Happy anniversary, baby ❤️ @KeithUrban." This post marked the last time Kidman featured Urban on her main social media profile before the separation news hit.
For many years, Kidman and Urban made their home in Nashville. It was one of several properties they acquired during their marriage. Kidman often spoke about their quiet life there. She felt like a true part of the community. "Well, Keith has lived in Nashville for 30 years and I’ve been there for 12, so we really are part of it," the Babygirl actress told MiNFDOOD in September 2019.

Kidman insisted that she and Urban led a truly normal life. "Keith and I really have a very normal life. We say it over and over again and people always say, ‘Yeah, sure.’ But it really is like that. We work hard to have it and we protect it," she explained in that same interview. She added that she loved Nashville’s "quiet" and "solitude." "There, we lead a very simple life, so that’s probably why I don’t feel like I live this big celebrity life," Kidman reflected on her life with Urban and their daughters back then. "I step in for a moment and then I step out, returning to all the real day-to-day things."
The couple tied the knot in 2006. They had first met a year earlier at the G’Day USA gala in Los Angeles. Urban once shared the magical story of their first encounter in a November 2010 interview. "I swear she glided across the room, like she floated. I don’t know how she did it," he recalled. "It was amazing and there was an instant when she wasn’t with anyone, there was no one around, and I thought: ‘I’ll go say hello to her’."
Urban introduced himself briefly, then walked away. But he quickly regretted the short chat. He decided to approach Kidman again. "A friend of mine told me, ‘I think she wanted to talk to you.’ And I said, ‘Me? Why would she want to talk to me?’" he remembered. "So I went back, apologized, and we just started talking, and we really connected."
This divorce marks Kidman’s second marriage ending. The Being the Ricardos star was previously married to Tom Cruise, 63, from 1990 to 2001. During their marriage, Kidman became the adoptive mother to Isabella, now 32, and Connor, now 30.
