Hollywood is buzzing with news about a familiar face. Actress Nicole Kidman, 58, recently made a significant personal move. She filed for divorce from her husband, musician Keith Urban, 57. The couple had been married for 19 years, a long run in the entertainment world.
Kidman officially filed her divorce papers on September 30. Her reason for the split was listed as "irreconcilable differences." Beyond ending the marriage, Kidman also asked for full custody of their two daughters. Sunday is 17 years old, and Faith is 14.
Reports from the entertainment outlet Us Weekly confirmed the separation late last month. Neither star has spoken publicly about the split. However, an insider told Us Weekly that the pair had "been quietly separated for some time." This source suggested the couple "needed time to figure out if they were really going to divorce." The news outlet added that Kidman was "devastated" by the decision. "Her trust was lost, and it was too late," the source shared.
Before the divorce news broke, Kidman spoke with Vogue for a cover interview. She opened up about handling life’s challenges during that chat. She explained how she often uses her work as an escape and a way to deal with tough emotions. "I put it in my work. That’s the beauty of what I do," Kidman told the magazine. She sees her acting roles as a safe place for her feelings. "There’s a space for some of these things to explode, implode, be processed and discovered," she added.
Kidman has always been one to take creative chances. She told Vogue she likes picking film and TV projects that push her limits. "Taking risks is what I’ve always done," the Big Little Lies star said. She believes in learning from every experience, good or bad. "You get up, you try again and you learn," she noted, showing her resilient spirit.
She enjoys working on smaller, independent films. "I keep going back to low-budget independent cinema because that’s where I was born," she explained. Yet, she also loves big studio movies, like the upcoming Practical Magic 2 with Sandra Bullock. "But that comes with enormous pressure and responsibility," she mused. "And how do you carry that burden?" This busy work schedule arrives at a tough moment in her personal life.

Friends of the star revealed she kept her marital troubles quiet for months. She held onto hope that they could fix their marriage. Kidman and Urban were simply "not on the same page," a source told Us. They were "moving in two different directions," and their "worlds no longer intersect as much as before." This growing distance between them had become quite clear.
Though her personal life is in upheaval, Kidman finds comfort in solid friendships. She also finds peace in personal writing. "I am considering writing, but there are many things I am gathering in my little psyche," she shared with Vogue. She feels a strong need to express herself. "There is so much to say and so little time to say it," Kidman reflected.
Her thoughts wander to big questions: "About death, life, joy, grief, loss, sex, why we are here, what truth is, and if truth is even necessary." She continued her deep thoughts, "Are we human? Do parallel universes exist? What is the future? Do we really care? Do we live in a dream? What is reality? Where do we go? Why do I keep working? Why stop? You’ll have to tie me down, tie me down!" It seems work, art, and deep reflection are her ways through this challenging chapter.
