The Nicaraguan government announced this Monday that it will establish vaccination posts at airports and borders, to inoculate people who enter the country against covid-19.
Nicaragua will establish “vaccination posts at the borders and at airports, so that the entire population that enters the country can also complete their scheme according to their age,” said Vice President Rosario Murillo, through the government’s media.
The establishment of vaccination points at all Nicaraguan borders is part of a new strategy, which includes posts in ports, hospitals, markets, health centers, universities, city halls, prison system, customs, tourist destinations, State institutions and large companies, detailed the wife of President Daniel Ortega.
Murillo affirmed that the application of the vaccine against covid-19 in Nicaragua continues to be voluntary, however, “people who go to hospitals will be asked for the vaccination card.”
The objective, according to the Executive, is to raise the levels of vaccination against covid-19, which according to the first lady, until today was 77% of the population over two years of age.
The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) places Nicaragua’s vaccination process between 35.7% and 38.6%, which places the country among the furthest behind in America.
Since Nicaragua began the vaccination process against covid-19, in March 2021, the vaccines that have been applied are Sputnik V, Sputnik Light, Covishield, AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Abdala and Soberana 02.
The application of Chinese Sinopharm vaccines is expected at any time.
According to official information, covid-19 has left 216 dead and 17,462 confirmed cases.
The Covid-19 Citizen Observatory of doctors network has reported 5,964 deaths from pneumonia and other symptoms of the pandemic, as well as 31,269 suspected cases.
