The NFT (non-fungible token) The market is developing very quickly and that is accompanied by all kinds of scams. The trick that has been played about the NFT of a Kia Sedona was particularly special. Fortunately, this story had a happy ending.
The NFT sale initially started in a humorous way. It was based on a twitter meme around car brand Kia. And then the Kia Sedona. A group of 10 anonymous individuals created a website and named it Jay Pegs Auto Mart. They were behind the sale of the NFTs.
The sale was for DONA reserve tokens. DONA can be purchased on Miso, a token platform of decentralized crypto exchange SushiSwap (SUSHI). DONA tokens purchased during the sale could be redeemed for an NFT of a 2007 Kia Sedona. In total there were 10,000 NFTs to forgive.
The sale then went well, yielding a whopping 864.8 ethereum (ETH). Converted that was about $3.1 million. Here, however, things went wrong and all parties were able to whistle for their money.
Kia NFTs to the wrong address
Joseph Delong, CTO of SushiSwap, said an anonymous person added a “malicious code” to the Miso platform, changing the destination address. All the money raised from the token sale went through that code to the new address and all involved parties lost their money and tokens.
Meanwhile, crypto exchanges Binance and FTX asked for help to identify the hacker. For the time being, both exchanges have not yet agreed. Delong had already warned that law firm Anderson Kill will be called in against the hacker(s). If the stolen money and tokens are not returned, a complaint will be filed with the FBI.
Jay Pegs Auto Mart has already reassured buyers. They will pay the Kia Sedona NFTs to the rightful owners anyway.
Hey folks. Everyone will still receive their 2007 Kia Sedona NFTs, and the exchange is still scheduled to begin on 9/21/2021. https://t.co/oYgqyHY8Jp

Stolen ETH is back!
Meanwhile, the good news has also come out that all 864.8 stolen ethereum have been returned by the hacker. Since the ethereum has been refunded, it has still not become clear who the hacker was. Delong’s original tweets accusing the former MISO developer have been deleted.
