NFL suspends three players for an entire season for gambling

The NFL announced through a press release the four players suspended for violating league betting policies who join a long list of athletes punished for that activity.

Colts players Isaiah Rodgers and Rashod Berry next to the free agent demetrius taylor they were suspended all season for betting on games in the 2022 NFL season. The Indianapolis franchise terminated the contracts of Rodgers and Berry upon the disclosure of the penalty. All three players can apply to be reinstated as members of the NFL at the end of the 2023 season.

In case of Nicholas Petit-Frereof the Tennessee Titans, the sanction was minor, since he will only lose six games of the next course. The offensive tackle placed non-NFL sports bets from the team facility.

During the offseason, the league suspended Jameson Williams, Quintez Cephus, Stanley BerryHill and CJ Moore from the Detroit Lions and Shaka Toney from the Washington Commanders for gambling. Williams and Berryhill were punished for six games, while Cephus, Moore and Toney were punished for the entire season.

The NFL rules on gambling

The NFL betting rules are simple: any league employee may not bet on football matches, either directly or indirectly. In addition, players are urged to give their best effort in all matches and not give out inside information to people outside the league.

Players are also not allowed to bet from the team’s facilities. Besides, all NFL personnel are prohibited from visiting casinos or using any sportsbook while the season is in progress.
