Newell’s and San Lorenzo equalized in Rosario

San Lorenzo and Newell’s equalized goalless at the Coloso Marcelo Bielsa stadium, in a match corresponding to the second date of the Professional League tournament, where VAR took center stage.

In a discreet match, which had few scoring opportunities, Newell’s was slightly superior in the first half to the visiting team, who defended near their goal and was covered with yellow cards in the background.

In the second half, the VAR appropriated the emotions: first, after five minutes, it corrected a decision by Silvio Trucco that would have completely changed the course of the duel, given that the referee had sent off Federico Gattoni and charged a penalty, for a play in which there had been no contact between the defender and the rival striker.

At 17 minutes, the one who saw the red card was Cristian Lema, again due to the intervention of the VAR, for a hard iron on Jalil Elías.

However, San Lorenzo did not know how to take advantage of the extra man and coach Rubén Darío Insúa maintained a conservative scheme, so the locals did not have any major complications and the game ended in an apathetic draw.

With this result, Rosario added four points after debuting with a victory over Banfield on the opening day, while Boedo’s team achieved their second draw after 1-1 with Independiente in the premiere.

On the next date, San Lorenzo will receive Arsenal at the New Gasometer, on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m., while Newell’s will visit Talleres in Córdoba on the same day at 7:00 p.m.
