  • New Zealand’s tour of Australia is in jeopardy due to rising coronavirus cases
  • New Zealand also have to play a number of ODI and T20 matches on the tour of Australia.

The New Zealand team’s tour of Australia for a limited series later this month has been compromised due to strict cap restrictions, as the team will now have to book a quarantine spot for their return. The New Zealand team would depart for Australia on January 24, where they would play ODIs on January 30, February 2 and February 5 and T20 matches on February 8.

New Zealand Cricket did not book quarantine places for February because it hoped New Zealanders returning from Australia would not have to.

Previously, it was mandatory to do this only until the middle of January, but now, after the spread of the Omicron variant, it has been increased until the end of February.

Cricket New Zealand said on Friday that it is hopeful of touring Australia, but options are being discussed with Cricket Australia. This includes delaying the return of the Australia team or rescheduling. A spokesman said the team would not travel to Australia until a return plan was in place.
