New York: A fire in a residential building killed 19 people, including children

A fire at a building in New York City has killed at least 19 people, including nine children, and injured 63 others.

According to news agencies, a senior adviser to the city’s mayor, Eric Adams, confirmed the deaths and said the dead children were under 16 years of age.

He added that 13 people injured in the blaze were being treated at the hospital and their condition was critical.

In addition, New York Mayor Eric Adams called the incident an irreparable loss on the social networking site Twitter.

Daniel Negro, commissioner of the New York City Fire Department, later said most of the deaths were due to suffocation caused by smoke.

It should be noted that this was the worst fire in the city in the last three decades.
