The Volkswagen T-Roc, a compact SUV that’s been a big hit across Europe, just got a major makeover. The Volkswagen Group officially unveiled its second generation today. Fans will be happy to hear that this German-designed vehicle will keep its home at the Autoeuropa factory in Palmela.
This new T-Roc isn’t just an update; it promises to build on its success as Volkswagen’s best-selling SUV on the continent. Good news for the Autoeuropa plant: production is locked in at the Palmela facility until at least 2033. It’s a solid win for the factory that crafts this popular model.
What’s Different in the New T-Roc?
The refreshed T-Roc brings some neat changes, making it feel fresh and modern.
- New Look: The design is more solid and sleek. It takes cues from the larger Tiguan. You’ll notice striking LED headlights connected by a cool light bar across both the front and back.
- Bigger Inside: The car grew by about 12 centimeters. This means more room for passengers. It also sports a slightly sportier, coupe-like look.
- More Trunk Space: Hauling groceries or luggage will be easier. The trunk now holds around 475 liters, which is 30 liters more than the last model.
- High-Tech Interior: Say goodbye to old-school dials. The cockpit is now fully digital. New materials give it a better feel. Plus, the ride will be quieter thanks to improved soundproofing. Connecting your phone is easier with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- Smart Safety: Volkswagen added advanced IQ.DRIVE systems. These include Travel Assist, adaptive cruise control, Lane Assist, and traffic sign recognition. The car is simply smarter on the road.
- Engine Options:
- You can choose mild-hybrid petrol versions with either 116 horsepower or 150 horsepower.
- There’s also a full-hybrid option. It can drive up to 120 kilometers on electric power alone. It also offers fast charging at 50 kW.
- For those who love power, the top-tier T-Roc R comes with a 2.0 mild-hybrid engine.
- No More Convertible: If you loved the open-air Cabriolet version, prepare for a change. The new T-Roc will not offer a convertible model.

This car truly is a global citizen. It’s built only at the Autoeuropa plant and then shipped to many markets around the world. If you’re eager to get your hands on one, pre-sales are set to kick off in September. You can expect to see it hit the market by the end of 2025.
