On monthly Patch Day, Microsoft also delivers the new version 5.117 of the “Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool” via the automatic Windows Update. It is also available as a separate download for multiple use. The download is approximately 57 MB. You can run the anti-malware tool on all supported Windows versions (from Windows 7, Server 2008 and newer). You don’t have to install it separately. When called, the downloaded EXE file unpacks itself into a temporary folder and then starts the program.
In addition to the mandatory “Full Scan” and “Quick Scan” scan types, the Microsoft tool also offers the option of checking a folder selected by the user for pests. During the investigation, the tool also provides more detailed information about the current progress of the system check.
The Windows tool for removing malicious software checks the computer for a selection of common malware and, if found, offers to remove the infection. The new version 5.117 from September 12th also targets the ShinnyShield malware family. Trojan:Win32/ShinnyShield.A is a Trojan horse that allows an attacker to take control of the PC.
