Details of Saif’s Attacker Emerge as Investigation Continues
The Mumbai Police have revealed new information about the accused, Mohammad Shariful Islam Shahzad, who attacked Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan on January 16.
Accused’s Whereabouts on the Morning of the Attack
According to a police officer, the accused was present in Bandra till 7 am on the day of the incident, sleeping at a bus stop. Shahzad, a Bangladeshi citizen, had entered India illegally and changed his name to Bijoy Das. He had intended to commit theft when he entered Saif Ali Khan’s house.
Entry into Saif’s House
The accused gained entry into Saif’s building by climbing the stairs to the seventh-eighth floor, then entering the duct area. He climbed to the 12th floor through the pipe and entered Saif’s flat through the bathroom window.
Argument with the Nanny and Attack on Saif
The accused started arguing with the nanny, demanding Rs 1 crore. When Saif intervened, the accused stabbed him with a knife on his back. Saif then locked his flat, but the accused managed to escape from the same place he had entered.
Items Found in the Accused’s Bag
During the investigation, police recovered a hammer, screwdriver, nylon rope, and other items from the accused’s bag. This suggests that the accused may have had a criminal history.
Delayed Capture of the Accused
The accused’s capture was delayed because a detection personnel of the Bandra police station had taken the CCTV digital video recorder (DVR) of Saif’s building and sent it to the Mumbai Crime Branch without sharing it with the team.
Accused’s Background and Charges
Shahzad, a resident of Jhalokathi, southern district of Bangladesh, had been in Mumbai for five months, working in a housekeeping agency and doing other small jobs. He has been charged under various sections of the Indian Justice Code, including robbery, house-breaking, and provisions of the Passport Act.
Saif’s Health Update
According to the doctor at Lilavati Hospital, Saif Ali Khan’s health is improving. However, there is no confirmation on when he will be discharged as it has not been discussed with the family and doctors yet.
