New record! PS5 achieves biggest month of launch in the US console market

Even though 2020 brought problems on multiple issues, such as shortages of stocks and financial losses, Sony’s new PlayStation 5 seems to have gone against the grain and achieved a historic feat in the United States.

According to data from the NPD Group, the PS5 became the biggest launch in a month of a console in the North American country – as was previously predicted. It beat its predecessor PS4 – November 2013 – and managed to record twice as many units sold as its competitor, Xbox Series X.

General spending on video games in the U.S. in the last month of November would have exceeded the $7 billion mark. The numbers would represent a 35% increase over last year’s records.

Analysts at the research institute also said that sales of the Xbox Series X and S models had a lesser debut than that of the Xbox One. Much of this would have to do with supply problems. In addition, the Sony brand would have even more influence with console players. Microsoft would have the Xbox Game Pass in its favor, which does not necessarily require the presence of a console in order to play the titles.

Despite not having launched a new product for this generation, Nintendo also achieved good results in November, by being at the top of the ranking of most commercialized units and having a well-stocked inventory.

It is important to note that bot sales also count, which can make a difference in practice. It remains to be seen how the results of the next months will be, to see how the companies fared in this period of holiday season.
