New Police Video Raises Questions About Conviction Evidence

Concerns Over Imprisonment Conditions and Conviction

Martin Mutio’s wife, Sol, has expressed concerns over her husband’s imprisonment conditions and the circumstances surrounding his conviction. Mutio was sentenced to 15 years in prison for his alleged involvement in a 4.5-ton cocaine shipment to Hamburg in 2019.

Questioning the Conviction

Sol believes that her husband was wrongly accused and that the truth was overlooked in the investigation. She claims that the Prosecutor’s Office was convinced that the drugs were loaded in Uruguay and did not investigate further. Sol expressed her anguish over the situation, stating that she has found strong evidence that proves her husband’s innocence.

Imprisonment Conditions

Sol also raised concerns over the conditions of her husband’s confinement. She mentioned that Mutio was promised the opportunity to work for at least two hours a day, but this has not been fulfilled. Sol emphasized that her husband is a human being with rights, despite being convicted, and that he should not be subjected to harsh conditions.

Fire Incident

Sol questioned the official account of a fire incident in Mutio’s cell, which occurred in December. The Ministry of the Interior alleged that Mutio started the fire himself, but Sol disputes this claim. She argued that the evidence suggests that the fire was caused by other detained individuals who had a problem with Mutio.

Seeking Justice

Sol intends to present her case to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, seeking justice for her husband. She hopes that the commission will review the evidence and consider the human rights violations that Mutio has suffered.

Lawyer’s Statement

Juan Raúl Williman, Mutio’s lawyer, described the transfer to a maximum-security prison as a “setback in rights.” He argued that the progress made in Mutio’s confinement conditions was reversed after the fire incident. Williman emphasized that the administration’s account of the incident is unjustified and that Mutio’s rights have been violated.
