Mexico is working to improve its procedures and eliminate the need for bureaucratic processes. Several states have already joined the initiative of a permanent driving license, which does not require periodic renewals. Now, a new state is adding to this procedure.
The permanent driver’s license is a license that does not require renovations, and it will be permanent as long as traffic standards are met. This change is helpful for drivers, as it avoids bureaucratic processes and saves money on renewals. So far, the permanent driver’s license is available in CDMX, Oaxaca, San Luis PotosÃ, and Tamaulipas. But now, a new state is joining this initiative to favor its residents.
From 2025, the State of Morelos will implement an important change in the driving licensing system by introducing the possibility of processing a permanent license. This advance aims to facilitate bureaucratic procedures for citizens, reduce administrative complications, and promote a more efficient mobility system.
The cost of this new permanent license will be 1,391.62 pesos for those who wish to change their current license for the permanent one. However, drivers who perform the process for the first time must cover an additional cost of 407.30 pesos, which corresponds to the practical management examination required as part of the process.
Although the change is optional, most drivers could consider this alternative as a long-term investment, since the periodic payment of renewals in the coming years is avoided. In the future, it is an investment that will save them more money. Until now, drivers in Morelos had to go to the corresponding offices every few years, a procedure that involved additional expenses and waste of time to make the necessary updates. With the new permanent license, they will have a valid document indefinitely.
This change does not eliminate management exams or requirements for obtaining the license. Those interested must continue demonstrating their driving skills and comply with traffic laws.
Morelos is implementing adjustments in its administrative systems, and these are some of its changes. The permanent license will not be the only change; there are other aspects related to transport and vehicular rights. For owners of public transport units, the rates will be adjusted with a 4.20% increase. This means that vehicular rights, which in 2024 have a cost of 1,357 pesos, will go to 1,414 pesos in 2025.
Another prominent point is the creation of unique windows for different types of users. There will be a special window for managers who usually perform multiple people procedures. This seeks to avoid long lines and provide a more efficient service for citizens who come to carry out individual procedures.
This differentiated care model not only improves the experience of users in general, but also speeds up administrative processes in government offices. The measure complements the State’s effort to modernize its services and allow procedures to be faster and less complicated.
Now, Morelos is the new state that joins the permanent license. With this, it is a significant step towards modernization in public services related to transport. Although the procedure is optional, it is evident that many citizens will opt for this new modality, saving not only time but also money.
