New Inter Coach Cristian Chivu’s Debut Marred by Errors

Cristian Chivu’s first press conference as Inter’s coach was memorable for all the wrong reasons. The Romanian coach looked uncertain, and so did the people surrounding him.

It started with Inter’s president, Giuseppe Marotta, struggling to explain Chivu’s contract. “Our new coach signed until 2028, for the 2025/27 and 2027/28 seasons. Two years, basically,” Marotta said, clearly flustered. However, Chivu’s contract actually runs until June 30, 2027.

After Marotta stepped down, the press officer took his place. He took so long to start speaking that Chivu thought he should jump in. But the press officer quickly gestured for Chivu to wait, explaining the conference rules as the coach smiled nervously.

Chivu, now 44, used to play for Inter from 2007 to 2013. He was part of the team that won the Italian championship, Italian Cup, and Champions League in 2009/10 under José Mourinho.

As a coach, Chivu started with Inter’s youth teams but took over Parma in February. In 13 games, he got three wins, seven draws, and three losses, helping the team stay in Serie A.

Now, Chivu returns to Inter to replace Simone Inzaghi, who left for Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia after losing the Champions League final to PSG. Inter also missed out on the Italian title, which went to Napoli.

Chivu’s Coaching Career

Chivu’s journey as a coach is still unfolding. He began with Inter’s youth teams before moving to Parma. His experience at Parma was short but notable, as he managed to keep the team in Serie A. Now, he faces a new challenge at Inter, where he will try to bring success back to the team.

Key Stats

  • 3 wins in 13 games at Parma
  • 7 draws in 13 games at Parma
  • 3 losses in 13 games at Parma
  • Contract with Inter until June 30, 2027

As Chivu starts his new role, he will be under pressure to perform. Inter’s fans expect a lot from their team, and Chivu will have to deliver. With his experience as a player and coach, he might just be the right person for the job.
