As was already leaked in advance, Nvidia used the CES 2024, which takes place from January 9th to 12th in Las Vegas, to present the three new refreshed gaming graphics cards GeForce RTX 4080 Super, GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super and GeForce RTX 4070 Great to introduce, which are particularly aimed at demanding players. PC-WELT explains all the technical specifications of the three models.
GeForce RTX 4080 Super
The absolute spearhead among the refresh graphics cards in the GeForce RTX 4000 Super series is the GeForce RTX 4080 Super, which, based on the AD103 graphics processor with 80 compute units and the resulting total of 10,240 shader units, is in second place behind the GeForce RTX 4090 Total space in the manufacturer's portfolio. Nvidia promises around 5 percent more performance compared to the regular GeForce RTX 4080.
The technical specifications of the GeForce RTX 4080 Super, which will completely replace the regular GeForce RTX 4080 in Nvidia's portfolio from January 31, 2024, read as follows.
GeForce RTX 4080 Super – Specifications
- Ada Lovelace
- AD103 graphics processor
- 80 stream multiprocessors
- 80 ray tracing accelerators
- 10,240 shader units
- 16GB GDDR6X
- 320 watts TDP
- 23.0 Gbps
- 256-bit
With the GeForce RTX 4080 Super, Nvidia has not only focused on the performance, which increases accordingly due to the increase from the previous 9,728 to 10,240 shaders and the faster graphics memory, but also on the better price-performance ratio.
While the regular GeForce RTX 4080 has an RRP of 1,329 euros, the GeForce RTX 4080 Super will be available from January 31, 2024 at a price of 1,109 euros. Nvidia offers more performance at a cheaper price, although the GeForce RTX 4080 Super is of course still at the top of the top gaming graphics cards in terms of price.
GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super
The new GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super is intended to represent the new sweet spot among gaming graphics cards and surpasses its direct predecessor, the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, especially in terms of graphics memory, which increases from 12 to 16 GB GDDR6X.
But the graphics processor, which receives an upgrade from the AD104 to the AD103, also grows in terms of shader units from the previous 7,680 to now 8,448 computing units. For the new, refreshed GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super, the manufacturer predicts a performance jump of around 10 percent compared to the previous generation GeForce RTX 4070 Ti.
Unlike the GeForce RTX 4080 Super and GeForce RTX 4070 Super, the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super will not be available in the manufacturer's own Founders Edition, but only as a custom design.
The technical specifications of the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super, which will completely replace the regular GeForce RTX 4070 Ti in Nvidia's portfolio from January 24, 2024, read as follows.
GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super – Specifications
- Ada Lovelace
- AD103 graphics processor
- 66 Stream Multiprocessors
- 66 ray tracing accelerators
- 8,448 shader units
- 16GB GDDR6X
- 285 watts TDP
- 22.4 Gbps
- 256-bit
The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti also benefits from a better price-performance ratio compared to the regular GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, which will be phased out on January 24th.
While the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, which is around 10 percent slower, was launched at a price of 899 euros, Nvidia is now charging 889 euros for the faster GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super.
GeForce RTX 4070 Super
Unlike the GeForce RTX 4080 Super and GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super, the new GeForce RTX 4070 Super does not replace its direct predecessor, the GeForce RTX 4070, in the portfolio, but rather complements it. On paper, the smallest of the three new graphics cards makes the biggest leap in performance compared to the regular model.
Nvidia promises up to 15 percent more performance, which is primarily due to the AD104 graphics processor. The graphics chip grows from the previous 46 CUs and 5,888 shader units to now 56 CUs and 7,168 shader units, while the graphics memory remains unchanged at 12 GiBytes on a 192-bit wide memory interface. The TDP also remains low compared to its predecessor at 220 watts.
The technical specifications of the GeForce RTX 4070 Super, which will complement and not replace the regular GeForce RTX 4070 in Nvidia's portfolio from January 17, 2024, read as follows.
GeForce RTX 4070 Super – Specifications
- Ada Lovelace
- AD104 graphics processor
- 56 Stream Multiprocessors
- 56 ray tracing accelerators
- 7,168 shader units
- 12GB GDDR6X
- 220 watts TDP
- 21.0 Gbps
- 192-bit
In terms of raw computing power, the GeForce RTX 4070 Super makes the biggest leap compared to its direct predecessor, increasing significantly from the previous 29 TFLOPS to now 36 TFLOPS.
The GeForce RTX 4070 Super should also appeal to gamers because of its better price-performance ratio. The RRP remains unchanged at 659 euros, although players receive around 15 percent more performance and therefore get the better deal.
Market launch
The US graphics card manufacturer has decided on a staggered market launch for the GeForce RTX 4080 Super, GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super and GeForce RTX 4070 Super.
The three new “super graphics cards” appear in retail stores every 7 days and can then be tested independently.
- GeForce RTX 4070 Super: January 17, 2024
- GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super: January 24, 2024
- GeForce RTX 4080 Super: January 31, 2024
The custom designs are expected to hit shelves a few days after Nvidia officially releases the Founders Edition for sale.
