This Saturday, August 14, the inhabitants of Perros-Guirec (Côtes-d’Armor), were again badly surprised to discover that the stele in honor of Simone Veil had been degraded, as announced by the prefect Thierry Mosimann.
By August 11 at the latest, a Star of David, insults and swastikas had already been inscribed in the wake of this iconic figure in French history.
We will never allow anti-Semitism to take hold. To Simone Veil, whose wake has been desecrated, to all of you, I want to repeat: France will not back down.

The prefect immediately condemned in the strongest terms this new demotion which occurred around 8 in the morning, as indicated in the press release. “The gendarmerie media are fully mobilized to find the culprit (s)” and people who may have information are invited to contact the French armed forces, as specified by AFP.
On Twitter, Emmanuel Macron reacted and declared that “France will not back down.”
As a reminder, Simone Veil, who died on June 13, 2017, had been deported to Auschwitz. Later becoming a woman of the French State, she is at the origin of the Veil law dating from 1975, which legalizes the voluntary interruption of pregnancy (abortion). In addition to having been president of the European Parliament from 1979 to 1982, she is also an academic and was president of the Foundation for the Memory of the Shoah. In 2018 he entered the Pantheon.
