It was a day to remember in the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2. Scotland’s George Munsey smashed 191 runs, but it wasn’t enough. Netherlands’ Max O’Dowd led his team to a thrilling 4-wicket win with a blistering 158 runs.
Scotland batted first, scoring 369 runs in 50 overs. Munsey’s 191 runs came from 150 balls, with 11 sixes and 14 fours. Captain Matthew Cross chipped in with 59 runs.
But Netherlands were not intimidated. O’Dowd hit 158 runs from 130 balls, with 4 sixes and 13 fours. Teja Nidamanuru and Noah Croes both scored half-centuries, with 51 and 50 runs respectively. Netherlands won with 4 balls to spare.
This match will be remembered for its explosive batting. A total of 25 sixes and 59 fours were hit. Scotland’s Mackenzie Jones had a tough day, conceding 74 runs in 8 overs.
A Record-Breaking Chase
Netherlands’ win is the fourth-highest successful run chase in ODI history. They were set a target of 370 runs, which they achieved in 19.2 overs. South Africa holds the record, chasing down 435 runs against Australia in 2006.
The Netherlands have done it before, chasing down 375 runs against West Indies in 2023. South Africa is also third on the list, achieving a target of 372 runs against Australia in 2016.
India is sixth on the list, having chased down 360 runs against Australia in 2013. Rohit Sharma scored 141 runs, while Virat Kohli scored 100. Shikhar Dhawan contributed 95 runs.
