Netflix wasn’t the only one to increase streaming prices in Portugal

As we reported this Thursday, Netflix made official an already predictable price increase in our country. The streaming platform had already done so in 2020 in the United States or in July in Brazil.

The Base plan of the platform remains unchanged at € 7.99, but the Standard and Premium plans suffer price increases. The first costs € 10.99 and increases to € 11.99. The second, and more expensive, ranges from € 13.99 to € 15.99.

Disney + raised prices 3 months after its arrival in Portugal

We had to wait a long time to see a Netflix surge. But other platforms, like Disney +, only took three months in our market to raise prices.

The platform arrived in our country in September of last year, for € 6.99 per month or € 69.99 per year. It was an attractive price that became a mirage with the inclusion of Star content. Since then, the service has risen to € 8.99 per month or € 89.99 per year.

To date, Amazon Prime Video is the cheapest streaming service among the best players From the market. For only € 3.99 per month, or € 36 per year, users have the right to the streaming service, but also to other services such as free shipping of any purchase marked as such.

The arrival of HBO Max to Portugal should bring increases

Who keeps the prices unchanged is HBO Portugal, since it costs € 4.99 since it arrived in our country. However, with the arrival of HBO Max to our country, scheduled for this year, this price should undergo changes.

Netflix justifies this price increase in the same way that Disney + did: by supposed catalog improvements. But the truth is that the Covid-19 pandemic has affected many of Netflix’s original productions that remain unpublished.

We will see if these increases will have an adverse effect on the number of subscribers to the service. The beauty of a streaming service is that the user can unsubscribe immediately if they cannot tolerate the increases.
