Eric Bana himself shared his excitement through Netflix’s official publication, Tudum. "I am absolutely thrilled to have the chance to bring another season of UNTAMED to life," Bana stated. He added that the fantastic response to the first season proved the team’s hard work in creating something truly special. "I cannot wait to take Kyle on his next journey," he said, thanking Netflix, John Wells Productions, Warner Bros. Television, and the devoted fans.
The show’s creators, Mark L. Smith and Elle Smith, revealed that the idea for a second season came about naturally. Mark told Tudum that they initially saw the show as a six-episode, self-contained story. However, as they got deeper into it and worked with such an amazing cast, they started thinking, "Yes, how do we keep this going?"
What’s Next for “Untamed” Season 2?
At the end of Season 1, Kyle Turner left Yosemite. He had shed some of the emotional weight tied to his time in the park. For Season 2, the creators plan for him to solve a brand new mystery. This time, he’ll be in a different national park.
Mark Smith explained to Tudum that this won’t be Turner’s very first stop since Yosemite. "He has visited many parks. He has been busy, handling many cases," Mark said. "This will be the most recent one, and it will have a bigger impact on him."
Elle Smith shared that their main goal was to put Turner in a park that feels completely different from Yosemite. "Each national park has such a distinct cultural and geographical identity," she told the outlet. "Being able to explore those places through the case and Turner’s journey is the most fascinating part."
Who’s Coming Back to the Cast for Season 2?
Eric Bana is definitely returning for the second season. However, the rest of the cast is less certain, mainly because the show will move to a new location. Mark Smith told Tudum that meeting a new group of characters in a different park will be a key part of Turner’s journey in Season 2.
"Turner felt very comfortable in Yosemite," the writer explained. "He led this expedition, and people followed him. Now, we are putting Kyle at a disadvantage, making him feel quite uneasy." He added that this time, viewers can follow Turner to a new park and stumble alongside him as he finds his way.
Fans can rest easy knowing that the new characters will be as complex as those played by Sam Neill, Rosemarie DeWitt, and Lily Santiago in Season 1. Mark confirmed to Tudum that they will "make sure to fill it with interesting characters that help him in both good and challenging ways."
Even though most of the Season 2 cast will be new, Mark also mentioned that they hope to bring back other members from the first season. "My goodness, we loved our cast and the characters they brought to life," he told the outlet. He explained that bringing back cast members would need to make sense for the story, but "in an ideal world, we might make something happen."
