Netflix raises prices in the US. Do you follow Portugal?

Netflix is the most popular streaming platform globally. Competitors like HBO Max, Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+ and even Disney+ continue to lag behind in the streaming giant’s subscriber count. And now a new price rise begins in the United States.

Starting this Saturday, Netflix’s base plan goes from $8.99 to $9.99. The Standard plan has a greater increase, going from 13.99 to 15.49 dollars. The premium plan runs from $17.99 to a hefty $19.99.

New US Netflix subscribers already feel a surge

These prices will now apply to new subscribers joining Netflix in the United States. However, these price increases will also be coming soon to current subscribers, who will be notified by email 30 days in advance.

Netflix prices now increase more frequently. Netflix’s base plan started at $7.99 from 2014, rising to $8.99 in 2019 alone. The HD plan originally launched in 2011 for $7.99 has seen multiple increases to $13.99 since 2020.

The Premium plan started at $11.99 in 2013. It went up to $13.99 in 2019, $15.99 in 2019, and $17.99 in 2020. It now hits the aforementioned $19.99 barrier.

Prices in Portugal have been shaken in 2021

In Portugal, remember, Netflix prices increased in 2021. The base plan remained at €7.99, but Standard went from €10.99 to €11.99 per month. The Premium plan went from €13.99 to €15.99.

Now that these increases have been made in the United States, the question remains: Will Portugal follow? The trend seems to be on the rise and streaming service subscribers may have some bad news on this topic in 2022.
