Disney has already released its latest tax data, having surpassed all Wall Street expectations in terms of subscribers, revenue and earnings. The growth of its streaming service is truly impressive.
Disney + reaches an impressive 116 million subscribers
Disney +, the streaming platform available in Portugal since September 2020, reached an impressive 116 million subscribers. This figure is higher than the 114.5 million that it was estimated to reach at the end of the last quarter.
When all three of Disney’s streaming services are combined, the numbers are even more impressive. Disney +, ESPN + and Hulu had 174 million subscribers at the end of last quarter.
Disney’s rise begins to threaten Netflix
By comparison, market leader Netflix had 209.2 million subscribers at the end of June. And while it’s still a comfortable distance, the rise of Disney + in this two-year span is impressive.
It can be said that there is room for everyone in the streaming market. But this is increasingly competitive, and certainly the quality of the content combined with the price will increasingly make the difference when choosing between one and the other.
In Portugal, Disney has a unique package in which users can choose to pay € 8.99 per month or € 89.90 per year. It allows viewing on up to four devices simultaneously and a quality of up to 4K.
Netflix has three plans. The cheapest one costs € 7.99 and only allows you to view it on one device at the same time and in SD quality. The Standard plan costs € 11.99 from this Thursday, and allows you to watch content up to Full HD on two devices simultaneously. The Premium plan now costs € 15.99 and allows you to watch 4K content on up to four devices simultaneously.
