Marketed in Chile for 60 years, the cookie called “Negrita”, which means “little black” in Spanish, will change its name in October to a less controversial title.
“As part of a global review process of its portfolio of more than 2,000 brands and 25,000 products, Nestlé decided to change its flagship brand from Negrita to Chokita”, explained the Swiss multinational in a press release published on Wednesday 21st July.
This new name “refers to its inimitable chocolate flavor, added to the diminutive that, in Chile, reflects what we treat with affection”, explained one of the leaders of the world’s agri-food industry.
The name change for this chocolate-covered vanilla cookie comes after “an assessment made by the company to identify concepts that may be considered inappropriate”.
In the early years of marketing the Swiss brand Hucke, the face of a black woman appeared on the product’s packaging.
