A White House official says the United States and Russia will hold talks on January 10 on nuclear weapons control and tensions over Ukraine.
According to the German broadcaster, a spokesman for the US National Security Council told the media that the United States was looking forward to talks with Russia and that the two countries’ concerns would be taken into account when the talks begin.
The talks will be part of the Strategic Security Dialogue, initiated by US President Joe Biden and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in June last year.
On the other hand, talks between NATO and Russia on the issue of Ukraine are also under consideration. According to the report, talks between Russia and NATO are also being prepared on January 12.
Western nations have accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of threatening to invade Ukraine following Russia’s recent deployment of thousands of new troops on its border with Ukraine. Russia’s move has raised fears of a war with its Western allies, but Russian President Vladimir Putin has denied any involvement.
On Sunday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that if the Western defense alliance, NATO, did not provide the required guarantees, it would consider a wide range of possibilities offered by military experts. President Putin has said that NATO’s expansion to the east is forcing Russia to take concrete steps for its own security.
Russia’s position is that NATO should guarantee Russia that it will not make Ukraine a member, but the NATO alliance has previously rejected such guarantees.
