Negotiation for rematch between Canelo and Bivol is not going well

Although there are negotiations between the Canelo Team and Dmitri Bivol’s team to agree on a revenge fight between the two, everything seems to indicate that theThey themselves would not go to a good port due to the economic claims of the Russian fighter, as assured by promoter Eddie Hearn, who has been aware of the talks that have existed.

“It’s not a situation where (Dmitry) is pricing himself out of reach. He just feels like he has a certain value for the fight, and right now, we’re not there.”, Hearn commented in an interview for TalkSport.

Previously, the Bivol team He assured that a rematch against Canelo Álvarez was “stupid” because it was under the same terms than the first where the Mexican was surpassed by the Russian monarch of the Light Heavyweights.

“In my opinion, I think they don’t want a rematch and are saying that (they want the same terms as the first fight) to justify themselves and make another fight like they did with Golovkin, John Ryder and maybe Berlanga. A rematch cannot take place on the same terms as the fight you lost. It’s stupid. We are looking forward. Artur Beterbiev is our target”.

CMB has it with restrictions

One of Bivol’s goals is to drop to 168 pounds to be able to aspire to Canelo Álvarez’s Undisputed Super Middleweight Championship; however, The World Boxing Council has a restriction against Russian boxers, since they cannot fight for WBC titles due to the conflict against Ukraine.

That is why Canelo’s team seeks to agree to the fight at 175 pounds to be able to fight for the championship that the Russian currently holds, just as it happened in the first fight between the two.
