Neeraj Chopra’s coach Klaus Bartonitz’s contract runs until the 2024 Olympics

New Delhi. The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) confirmed this Sunday that the Olympic champion javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra will continue training with his German coach Klaus Bartonitz, whose contract has been extended until the 2024 Paris Games. Olympic Games in Tokyo, Chopra had expressed his desire to continue training with the specialist in “biomechanics” from Germany.

“We have engaged the services of Dr. Klaus Bartonitz, coach of Olympic gold medalist in javelin throw Neeraj Chopra, until the 2024 Games in Paris,” said AFI. During the process, Bartonitz took over as Chopra’s coach from fellow countryman and former world record javelin thrower Uwe Hohn.

The AFI also said that 400-meter coach Galina Bukharina will also take over at the end of this year’s Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. Under Bukharina’s supervision, the men’s 4x400m relay team consisting of Mohammad Anas Yahia, Noah Nirmal Tom, Arokia Rajeev and Amoz Jacob set a new Asian record at the Tokyo Olympics. The AFI has recently presented the annual training and competition calendar to the Ministry of Sports.
