The NBA should designate February 27 as Official Stephen Curry Day. And not only for the 56 points with which the Warriors’ base knocked down the Magic in Orlando, noting 12 triples of 19 attempts. This is the moment Curry has chosen to shine.
He led the comeback of his team, 115-121, against the Orlando Magic, who were losing by 17 points at one point. Curry plugged 12 triples of 19 attempts to add 56 points.
February 27 is a special day for Curry. As ESPN collects, that same day the NBA has lived three exhibitions, in different years, of the player of the Warriors. On that same date, Curry has managed to star in three games with 45 or more points, something that only two players had achieved before him: Elgin Baylor (which has February 25 as a favorite day) and Wilt Chamberlain, which boasts of having scored at least three times 45 or more points in 16 different days of the calendar.
A very select club
But Curry already belongs to that club that, by the achievement itself and the difficulty of nailing the same day of the calendar, is presumed as one of the most complicated to enter. 26 times that Curry has reached 45 points, three has signed them on the same date.
After scoring one of the triples against Orlando, Curry made history. The first time he scored 45 or more on February 27 was in 2013. He reached 54 with 7 assists, 6 rebounds, and 3 robberies before the New York Knicks in Madison. It was the first game in which Curry reached 50 points in his career.
The second of those matches culminated with a triple of 11 meters to 0.6 seconds to win the game against Oklahoma City Thunder in the extension. That game ended with 46 points and 12 triples, and that campaign the Warriors signed the legendary balance of 73-9 in the 2015-16 season.
Before the Magic, Curry achieved 12 triples, staying one of the personal record he has, with 13, since 2016 against Lakers. It is his third game with 12 or more triple. And with 56 points, he stayed at six (62) from his scoring personal stop, established in 2021 against the Trail Blazers.
After the game, Curry added 45 games with 9 or more triple. He is the absolute leader in the history of the NBA, and as a fact, among the five players that follow him in the historic list do not add what he carries Curry: Damian Lillard (14), Klay Thompson (12), James Harden (9), Anfernee Simmons (5), and CJ McCollum (3).
Also, add 26 parties with 10 or more triple, and no one else has more than 9; 14 with 11 or more triple, something that has only been done 39 times in the history of the NBA (he has been almost a third), and his ninth clash with 50 points after meeting 30, leader in the history of the NBA. The one that is most about is Wilt Chamberlain with 7.
