The Brazilian multinational cosmetics manufacturer Nature looks for strategic alternatives, including a Possible sale of subsidiary The Body Shop, a chain of stores that has posted negative financial results since 2022 and is struggling due to weak sales in its native UK. The company will consider this later sells its luxury brand Aesop. This transaction took place at the time as part of a restructuring broader organization that saw the previous Executive President, Roberto Marques, having to cede the position to Fabio Barbosa.
Rumors of a possible sale of The Body Shop have been circulating in the market for a year. Natura took over the cosmetics chain from L’Oréal in 2017. The acquisition took place in a deal valued at $1,120 million with the aim of gaining a global presence, but the results were not as expected.
In the first quarter of 2023, the cosmetics company’s revenue was down 14.4% in the first half of 2023, compared to the same period last year. Specifically, up to 1,650 million reais (approx. 337 million dollars/312 million euros).
