Lane Thomas had a pair of RBI doubles and the Washington Nationals snapped out of their offensive slump with an 8-2 win over the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday, who lost right-hander Freddy Peralta with a stiff shoulder in the fourth inning.
Peralta (3-2) left the game after giving up an RBI double by Thomas during the Nationals’ six-run fourth-inning drive.
That inning became the Nationals’ highest-scoring inning of the season and the Brewers’ highest-scoring inning in a single inning this season.
Before the game, the Nationals had lost seven of their last nine meetings and had scored a total of six runs in those losses. However, on Sunday they built an early 8-0 lead and won easily.
For the Nationals, Venezuelans César Hernández 4-2, two runs scored, one produced, Keibert Ruiz 5-1, one scored, one RBI. Dominicans Juan Soto 5-1, two RBIs; Nelson Cruz 3-2, one RBI and Maikel Franco 4-2, two runs scored. Cuban Yadiel Hernández 4-2, one scored.
For the Brewers, the Venezuelan Omar Narváez 4-0.
