The XXXVll National Elite Boxing Championship will be held from December 15 to 18 at the Nagua sports center, María Trinidad Sánchez province.
The fair will be dedicated to the mayor of Nagua, Alfredo Rafael -Junior- Peralta, and the Alexis Victoria Cup will be held, as announced by the Dominican Amateur Boxing Federation (Fedoboxa) and the provincial association hosting the event.
The best Olympic boxers from the Dominican Republic grouped in the North, East, South, Greater Santo Domingo (National District and Santo Domingo Province) and the team from the María Trinidad Sánchez province will participate.
The details were offered by the president of Fedoboxa, Rubén García. The organization is in charge of the association of María Trinidad Sánchez, and has the advice of the engineer Bienvenido Solano, president Ad Vitam of the federation.
The director of the championship is Juan Alberto Rodríguez, who is also the technical director of Fedoboxa.
Rodríguez explained that last Sunday the regional qualifiers were concluded where the winning provinces were determined and that they have the right to be presenters of their respective groups.
San Cristóbal, who qualified four fighters, will represent the South. That region includes fighters from Peravia (4), San Juan (3) and Azua (1).
La Romana, who qualified 6 boxers, won the right to represent the East. This delegation is completed by San Pedro de Macorís (3), Hato Mayor (3), La Altagracia (1) and El Seibo (1).
Santiago (4) will go to the North, which includes fighters from La Vega (4), Puerto Plata (2), Valverde Mao (2) and San Francisco de Macorís (1).
The National District will attend with 13 fighters as well as the Santo Domingo Province, which make up Greater Santo Domingo. The María Trinidad Sánchez province will present its own team, given its status as organizer and host.
The teams will be made up of 13 boxers who will fight in the same number of categories, from 48 kilograms (kg) to +92 kg.
The president of the federation said that with this tournament in the elite category the calendar of activities scheduled for 2022 closes.
García stressed that thanks to the support of the Minister of Sports, engineer Francisco Camacho and the Nagua Municipal Mayor’s Office, it will be possible to hold the fair next weekend.
