Narcos Actor Manuel Masalva Thanks Fans After Near-Death Bacterial Infection

Manuel Masalva, the actor fans loved in Netflix’s ‘Narcos: Mexico,’ recently faced a health crisis that felt straight out of a movie script. He stared death in the face, caught by a severe bacterial infection while on what should have been a relaxing trip to Dubai. This unexpected battle kept him hospitalized for over three months, turning his world upside down.

But Manuel, who is 44, showed incredible resilience. After winning his health battle, he finally returned home to Mexico. He chose to share his journey with fans, showing how strong his body and spirit truly are. He appeared in an Instagram video, ready to speak for the first time about his long recovery. He also talked about his path to getting back to daily routines.

Manuel was clearly touched as he spoke. "After a month of returning to Mexico, today I feel calmer and more secure," he confessed in the post. He continued, "I want to share a bit of my rehabilitation and reintegration process. I owe so much to all of you who have followed along closely." His posts also included never-before-seen photos of his physical therapy. These images showed him slowly getting back his movement and energy. He constantly thanked everyone who helped him through this tough time.

Back in July, Manuel had already given hints of his improvement. He sent out a message describing the massive challenge he had faced. "I am healing," he wrote. "I feel blessed, strong, reborn. I spent 105 days in the hospital. For 81 of those days, I couldn’t even breathe fresh air." He added, "But now I feel stronger and thankful to God, my family, the doctors, and everyone who supported me."

A Close Call: Manuel Masalva’s Unexpected Battle

News of Manuel’s hospitalization first broke in early April. His closest friends and family confirmed it. They had been watching his medical progress carefully since he was admitted. He faced serious breathing problems. His friend, Mario Morán, explained that Manuel had been enjoying a vacation. Then he became "a victim of a very aggressive virus."

Reports soon confirmed the culprit: Burkholderia bacteria. This germ is tricky because it fights off antibiotics very well. You often find it in damp places, like soil or water. The infection hit Manuel’s lungs hard, leading to his critical state.

While Manuel fought for his life, his fellow actor Alfonso Dosal stepped up. Alfonso started a GoFundMe campaign to help with Manuel’s medical bills. The costs kept rising, but fans quickly surpassed the initial goal of $50,000.
