Napoli is still perfect and Zapata reaches 100 goals

Victor Osimhen hung in the air to nail a header with nine minutes remaining, as Napoli extended their perfect start in Serie A by beating Torino 1-0 on Sunday.

After captain Lorenzo Insigne wasted a penalty with a weak shot in the first half and Giovanni Di Lorenzo had a goal disallowed for forward position, Osimhen came to Napoli’s rescue.

After a beautiful team play, the 22-year-old Nigerian forward capitalized on a ball that was deflected on the back of a teammate to score the winning goal.

In a game dominated by Napoli, Mexican striker Hirving Lozano smashed a shot off the post in the second half.

With their eighth win in eight games, Napoli opened a two-point gap over the also unbeaten Milan, who beat Hellas Verona on Saturday.

Defending champion Inter, who lost to Lazio on Saturday, fell seven points behind Napoli.

Juventus hosted Roma later.

Napoli equaled their best start to the season since they also chained victories in their first eight games of the 2017-18 season.

Josip Ilicic signed a double and Duván Zapata became the first Colombian footballer to score 100 goals in Serie A, as Atalanta beat Empoli 4-1 away.

In addition, the goal of the Mexican center-back Johan Vásquez in the 89th minute allowed Genoa to rescue the 2-2 draw against visiting Sassuolo; Udinese rallied to equal 1-1 with Bologna; and Cagliari celebrated their first victory of the season by defeating Sampdoria 3-1.
